Love Like Gravity

Love and relationships are like planets. It sounds crazy at first, but the similarities are almost unbelievable. Some planets will go around their sun for millions of years on a near perfectly round orbit at the right distance. It only sounds like earth for a minute. This planet is like the high school couple that are still together after all these years, or your parents or grand-parents undying love that lasts for decades until death did they part. There might be volcano’s, earthquakes and hurricanes but everything evens out and the sun comes up every morning. Some live on an elliptical orbit with periods of intense heat at times, and other times of darkness and cold. Just like a marriage that seemingly ends in divorce, only to rediscover itself or rekindle into something that can see a second wedding. Love can surround you like mid-day sunlight. Love for many has been in our lives, in one part or another, each and every day we’re blessed to have here. Love is simple yet a vast and incredible power that we live our lives within. A power that holds families together, a place where most people begin. Love will help make the house you live in, a home. And as family members weep at a funeral, love will be there to say farewell at the end. Love is to share, not to have. Love holds us all to what created us. Love is like gravity.

Time itself is affected by the power of love. When two lovers are together time can seem to slow down. Doing what you love to do, hours fly by. Love can misplace the reasons we are trained to rush around for. Perhaps love bends time like evenly spaced ripples or wavelengths. Love gives more travel between each moment, or hour. It's like the long way home between each second.

Time (or timing) is equally as critical in relationships as it is in science and nature. If you’ve lived through a divorce for more than five years, chances are you can’t believe all the crap you thought was important to you back then. Or just how much you let someone or something hurt you. And if you’re living through a divorce right now, chances are you can’t believe how much it hurts, or how totally unimportant it is to the rest of the world. Although the look back is focused by experience, love is more powerful than wisdom and often sits right next to forever on the bus or in church. Think back to your earliest memories. Love is there long before we are shown anything else. Some of the smartest people on earth were taught by those who love them, to reach for their dreams. How we are loved as children (by parents, siblings and friends) shapes our personalities and our ability to love as adults. When you find love, you want to be together forever. When you lose love, you might never want to see that person again. Never is just as long as forever, the starting point is all that changes. Time will lend and amazing hand to help heal a broken heart. Time to figure out and understand that happened. Time to heal and start over. Time to do some things you’ve always wanted to do. Time to take your time.

The air and water on your planet are you, the minerals and stone your mate. The life that grows and lives on this planet are your children. Together you go around as life grows around you. The differences between your children are like the diversities in nature. All the wonderful memories you have like the birth of a child or the loving smile on your grandmothers face, are like all the beautiful sunsets. Here for only a few short minutes then gone forever. You can take a picture but it’s never the same. The sound of the crashing waves and sea gulls, and the salty sea air on a gentle breeze combined with the burning red sun in a cotton-candy sky. The photo is nice, but to be there is to live it. To have your breath taken away by the beautiful things around you. A photograph is a key that opens a door to a memory for those who were there to live it. The very spot that the photo was taken, the next day can see 180 mph. category 5 hurricane winds and whipping 25 foot high waves. Remember, timing is critical.

Just as some planets live and die naturally with the death of their sun, some will fall (or get pushed) into their sun or drift away. There are people in our past we might love to see again, and just the thought of that person might fill you with that “what if” feeling. A love or friendship that drifted away is like a faint star in the distance, twinkling to remind you if what was (or could be).

Sometimes an asteroid or comet will come close to a planet. Very much like a buff looking old boyfriend, or a sexy new secretary. A large enough passing object could influence the planets orbit thus affecting all life. Sometimes there is an impact. This impact could be equally as catastrophic on land or water. Either way, the air (you) could be choked and the greenhouse effect would heat the planet and boil off the water (you again). The impacting object might totally destroy the planet in the blink of an eye. The incredible power of love can bring the pieces back together, but the dynamics of planets original form (innocence) is forever changed. True love will eventually leave the raw materials to shape a new planet. Strangely, most married people rocked by a cheating spouse take about the same one year period to return to themselves. It’s a weird universal healing period, that gets shorter with subsequent heartbreaks.

Some planets can recover from an impact and the evidence is erased by natural events and a period of time. The length of time is proportionate to the mass of the impacting object. Forgiveness and erosion in a direct comparison, can you believe it? Its crazy that the old saying “time heals all wounds” can apply to the heart as well as this amazing little planet we live on. Love gives forgiveness reason and purpose. It takes a great amount of love to deliver real forgiveness. When love is lost and a heart breaks, we still carry a portion of that love inside us. That which is left strengthens or increases our ability to forgive. Some become bitter, while others learn about acceptance. It's like a light we all shine, and the source of loves warmth. Some shine brighter than others. When someone steps out of your light it still shines, only without reflection. The cold feeling of a heartbreak, is being without that warmth.

Some planets are totally void of life and show only scars from previous impacts. Just as some people use the excuse of their experience to become bitter or angry. As if love itself turned on them, and they’re not going to let that happen again. The atmosphere will eventually clear and the truth will be far more bitter. It’s as if a look through a telescope is a view of the way someone can feel, or the way life is treating someone here at the point of view. Based on the apparent age of the universe and the age of the first love story, it’s safe to guess that we somehow copied the stars. Perhaps we evolved into our environment on a much larger scale, the universal environment.

A comet could come along and strike a seemingly dead planet and the resulting impact could leave all the right ingredients for life. The circle of life is just as round as our life giving sun, or our dear mother earth or the moon. All things living have a time to die. There is no way around it. The death of a planet represents a love lost, but not the end. Some might agree the pain of heart-break or divorce is strangely comparable to the pain felt following the death of a dear friend or loved one. A love that can create beautiful loving children is bold and powerful, but fragile just the same. Just as divorce might be the death of a family, only love can build another. Love will always find a way to adapt within our lives. In nature, life will always find a way.

The power of love is unmeasurable from this point of view. That is, this reference point we call reality. Consider this, love has depth we all understand as we love our parents and our children with amazing depth. Yes, even an infinite depth, both forward and backwards. The love you have for them is for the rest of your life, which is forever in reality. It's endless depth behind us is from the love it took our grandparents and parents to make us. Forward and backwards forever, simple. Now width, not so simple, but it covers all your friends and it starts a little spark called desire. The width of our love includes our true feelings towards our fellow man. During the holiday season, we feel a broadening of this width. We loose the senseless fear and greed that keeps us wishing for peace on earth. People also tend to "reach out" during a disaster either natural or man made. We risk our lives for strangers because we love life, it should be saved. Love makes us priceless. No time for reasons when a life is at stake, is the time love takes over. Love is the only instinct, everything after that is a result of its width.

The love we share with another allows us to increase both depth and width. As love strengthens and grows, it bends itself from horizontal width into vertical depth. It somehow rotates on a double axis, and moves is all directions after that. Remember your first love? We keep a warm memory of this miracle to remind ourselves of the power we posses. This amazing power is dangerous and misunderstood, and still warm and wonderful in the same second. Lightning struck the earth one day and we had fire. We try to master it, but still we burn ourselves. We do not truly love a person with some of our love. Its unmeasurable and not fully understood and we're afraid. Afraid because we're taught to be afraid of things we don't understand. Something even our grandparents and parents kept in their hearts, but didn't fully understand. We try to measure it, keep it, give it away, rationalize it, justify it, find it, loose it, treasure it, and throw it away. We are taught to love, out of love itself.

The true power of love, which had its part it the creation and/or the beginning of each and every person who reads this, is somehow proportionate to the size of the universe. No matter how far apart two objects are, gravity is influencing both. If you look into the night sky, the stars you see were brought together by gravity long ago. And if not for love long ago, you would not be here to look up at the night sky. If (when) we find intelligent life elsewhere in the universe, each person on earth will face a new respect for human life. As history shows, we are a world at war with itself. Precious life is wasted every single day, with bombs and bullets and alcohol and drugs and violent crime and ignorant hate and senseless greed. Any new respect for life would make this world, the only one we have, a better place.

If just for a minute love were the universe, never and forever would fit easily on either end of something we call endless. The idea sounded simple in my head so wrote that last sentence, then simplicity left. If we are made up of things from our universe (and we are), how might you explain love to begin with? Love is the product of something that is very true, and much larger than we can imagine for a reason. Fear is another story, but what is inside us is inside us all. We don't reach out and save lives because we love people as much as we love life. People risk their lives (the only one they have) to save others because of love, making fear a shorter story. Why are the simple things so hard to believe? I'd love to have the answers too. If you ask a question, would you like an answer or the truth? We don't believe answers like we believe the truth. We believe 'in' the truth. Why waste time with an answer if you could choose the truth? The truth is the right answer anyway. The instant you believe an answer, you place it in the true column and gain the ability to defend it as the truth. Your idea of the truth is only that, and very much like a reflection in a mirror. When the blurry view comes to focus, you can see the truth. Mathematics easily shows numerical truth. Two plus two instantly focuses to four. Doubt is shifted and then deleted when the truth is in focus. You don't remember an old truth, you see truth that is too simple to disbelieve. If you think of the full moon on a clear night only it's red with orange spots, picture it in your mind, you will remember the true color of the moon, then change it with the idea of colors, then add the colors I suggested. We paint the truth with many things. Fear can be the black hole that we hide things behind, or let consume us. This mysterious thing can distort gravity, even light cannot escape. Light is now understood as a measurement for time, distance, and speed. It is at best a wish to be able to travel this fast, and even it cannot escape. That which is consumed by a black hole will never return the same. A tiny spark of life does not seem like a very big bang, but that just depends on your point of view. Some might wonder about the size or edge of the known universe, but it would take forever to get there. It sounds simple, fear is a black hole and love like gravity. Far to simple to believe.

If you can’t shelter your children from the cruel world, you’ll have to change the world. The only way to change something as large as everything, is with the very power that helped create us both. Love is not a weapon, it's the one thing that can take away the need for them. The very best thing we can leave our children when we’re gone is a vast ability to love. Love is something you can bless your children with, give to the world, and maybe take with you when you go. Perhaps the love we possess will shape our soul after the body is lifeless. And perhaps for each soul passed, is a star in the universe before us.
